The fourth network meeting is dedicated to the spaces of experience that emerge from the interplay of practices, senses and media (cf. Alper 2018; Hammer 2015; Schillmeier 2010). The interest lies on the aesthetic, artistic and philosophical potentials of dis-/ability in particular, departing from an exploration of blindness in both historic and contemporary practices.

The first public panel on Thursday evening addresses the period around 1920, when the need for training the senses came into focus in many ways: in the context of post-war rehabilitation, of pedagogy and of arts and crafts education (Medien, Sinne, Körper um 1920, THU 12 May, 6pm, German, public).  On Friday afternoon, the mode of discussion is more explorative, with a workshop dedicated to inclusive practices and methods of perception in the museum and on stage, all in relation to the interferences between body, space and technologies (Raum – Körper – Technologien im Museum und im Theater, FRI 13 May, 2pm, German, public). In the evening, a set of anthropological perspectives are adopted, looking at current processes of “embodied translation” and historic constructions of “in/capacities” in relation to the senses (Translating the Senses, FRI 13 May, 7:30 pm, English, public/hybrid).

In addition, internal network meetings are scheduled for the discussion of publications (FRI, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, SAT, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm).

The conference will be held on site.
