Tom Bieling (Dr. phil.) is Professor for Design Theory at HfG Offenbach Unversity of Art and Design. He previously held the professorship for design theory and research at Zentrum für Designforschung (HAW Hamburg). His work focuses on questions concerning the social and political dimension of design. He is co-editor of the BIRD series (Birkhäuser) as part of the Board of International Research in Design, co-editor of the book series Design Meanings (Mimesis), founder of designforschung.org (since 2008), research fellow at the Vilém Flusser Archive and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institut Mensch, Ethik und Wissenschaft. Since 2007, various guest professorships and lectureships worldwide, as well as numerous publications. As a research associate at the Design Research Lab (2010-2019), he led the Social Design research cluster at the Berlin University of the Arts, previously at TU Berlin (2007-2010). Recent books: 'Inklusion als Entwurf' (Birkhäuser/DeGruyter 2019), 'Design (&) Activism' (Mimesis 2019) and 'Gender (&) Design' (Mimesis 2020). www.tombieling.com
