Virtual Conference: New Histories of Medical Technology
Medical technologies have transformed the nature of doctor-patient relationships, definitions of health an disease, and the spaces and rhythms of clinical practice. Moving beyond heroic diagnostics and therapeutic devices, this conference spotlights how ordinary objects - speculums, prothetics, hearig aids - have shaped medicine's engagement with technology.
Organized by Jeremy Greene (John Hopkins University) and Jaipreet Virdi ((University of Delaware), this conference places historians of medicine in conversation with historians of technology to better understand new developments in social and cultural histories of medical technology, bringing new insights from disability, medial, environment, and colonial/Postcolonial histories.
