Tom Bieling, a postdoc at Zentrum für Designforschung (HAW Hamburg), has been a visiting professor at the University of Trento and the German University in Cairo. As a research fellow at the Design Research Lab (2010–2019), he headed the Social Design research cluster at Berlin University of the Arts and TU Berlin (2007–2010). His research mainly focuses on the social and political dimensions of design, particularly aspects of inclusion and exclusion. He is Co-Editor of the book series Design Meanings, chief editor at designforschung.org (since 2008), research fellow at Vilém Flusser Archive and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institut Mensch, Ethik und Wissenschaft. He has completed visiting professorships and teaching assignments for design theory and research worldwide since 2007 alongside numerous publications, he was announced “Young Innovator of the Year” by the Falling Walls Consortium and his work has been presented at exhibitions and museums worldwide.
